Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has said that he does not seek the office of the president or the prime minister. “I do not need anything for myself. I want to change the system of the country and I want to save the country.” He said this while talking to the zonal committee of the Lahore Zone and office-bearers of Lahore and Kasur districts on the telephone.

Founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), Mr Altaf Hussain has expressed profound grief and sorrow on the martyrdom of Muhammad Rafique who was a member of the sector committee of the Baldia Town Sector. Rafique was attacked by unknown terrorists the previous night. Joint Sector In-charge Muhammad Arshad Qureshi had also sustained bullet injuries in the incident. Rafique succumbed to the injuries in the hospital while Arshad Qureshi is still under treatment in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Pakistan belongs to the adherents of all faiths and religious persuasions. He said that he was not supporting any particular jurisprudence or school of thought rather he was raising his voice against injustices. After 1947, Pakistan adopted the position of denying that the population of the country was divided between Shias and Sunnis, among others. The census that followed took account of Muslims and non-Muslims but ignored the sects: it was also an indirect pledge of the state that it would not discriminate on the basis of sect. The founder of the state, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, although himself a Twelver Shia after conversion from the Ismaili sect, was wont to describe himself in public as neither a Shia nor a Sunni. The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has said that Pakistan needed unity and solidarity in the present circumstances. Killing Pakistani citizens on the basis of sectarian differences was, in fact, killing the Quaid-i-Azam.
