MQM's shadow budget, Business Recorder

This is probably for the first time in the history of Pakistan that a political party has done some serious homework and presented a shadow budget, a few days before the announcement or unveiling of actual budget, for government's consideration. Unveiling the party's 'budget' at a press conference in Islamabad on 27th May, 2012, MQM leader in Parliament, Dr Farooq Sattar, proposed the total outlay of the Federal Budget for FY13 at Rs 3.61 trillion some 30 percent higher than the size of the budget for 2011-12, envisaging a rise of Rs 400 billion in direct taxes and increasing their share in total taxes from 32 percent to 45 percent.

Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has said that Sindh does not belong to any one group. He said that the Sindh belongs to everyone whose life and death are tied to this province. It belongs to all those who are born here and who are buried here when they die. They earn their livelihood here and spend here whatever they earn. The permanent residents of Sindh have to co-exist by accommodating each other and accepting each other’s rights.

A high-powered delegation of the Pakistan People’s Party visited the MQM Head Office Nine Zero on Monday and held talks with the Co-ordination Committee. The PPP delegation comprised of the subcommittee formed by President Asif Ali Zardari for establishing peace in Karachi. The delegation was led by senior PPP leader Mr Amin Faheem. Other members of the delegation included Mr Khursheed Shah, Mr Naveed Qamar and Mr Maula Bux Chandio.

A delegation of Muttahida Quami Movement, led by Deputy Convener of MQM Co-ordination Committee and Federal Minister Dr Farooq Sattar called upon Prime minister Mr Yousuf Raza Gilani here on Monday. Prime Minister gave his approval for all the development projects for Karachi, Hyderabad and other cities of the Sindh Province that were proposed by MQM and gave assurance to allocate funds in the next budget for those projects.

The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has expressed it sconcerns on the abduction of businessman and demanded from the government to recover the kidnapped persons immediately. The committee said that notice should be taken of the demonstration held by the members of the business community on M A Jinnah road.
