The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has said that the system of local government in any country is the nursery of democracy. All those countries where the system of local government does not exist cannot boast of a genuine democracy. He said that the MQM is a peaceful political party, but its peacefulness must not be construed as its weakness. He said that the brutal killing of Malik Mumtaz was an attack on the freedom of the press in the country. Mr Hussain said that the killings of journalists were bringing a bad name to the country throughout the world. He said that it was a cause of great concern as the general elections were also approaching near.

The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has termed the analysis on a private TV channel about serious differences between the MQM leadership and Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan over the latter’s resignation. It termed the analysis as baseless, highly speculative and misleading. It said that certain elements were trying to create misconceptions in the minds of the MQM workers over its political differences with the PPP.
