In a remarkably impressive and organized, though sombre, show of solidarity with the victims of Abbas Town tragedy, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) organized a candlelight vigil on Sunday evening at the very site of twin blasts that killed over fifty and injured over hundred innocent people.

Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) organized a protest demonstration at 10 Downing Street in order to express solidarity with the victims of the Abbas Town tragedy in Karachi and Badami Bagh tragedy in Lahore. The demonstration continued for over two hours. Members of the Co-ordination Committee Muhammad Anwer, Saleem Shahzad, organizer of MQM UK Dr Saleem Danish and workers and office-bearers of different units of the MQM in UK attended the demonstration. Shumaila Imran, wife of late Dr Imran Farooq, was also present along with her children. Members of the Pakistani community, including women and children were also present on the occasion.

The Deputy Convenor of the MQM Dr. Farooq Sattar has vowed that with the support of overseas Pakistanis, the MQM would undertake every possible effort to achieve full rehabilitation of the victims of the Abbas Town tragedy. He assured the victims that the entire city stands united with them and the reconstruction of buildings torn by the twin blasts would start soon. Deputy Convener of the Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Dr Farooq Sattar has said that the Punjab government should resign immediately as the unfortunate incident in Badami Bagh violated the constitution of Pakistan. He said that the Christian community living in the Punjab was being targeted and victimized persistently while the Punjab government was standing as a silent spectator and doing nothing. He was addressing the participants of a protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club organized by the Minorities Wing of the MQM.

Members of the Co-ordination Committee, members of assemblies, office-bearers and workers of various wings of the MQM and people belonging to different walks of life would light candles in order to express solidarity with the affected families and in memory of the people who lost their lives.

The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has strongly condemned the attack on a residential colony of the Christian community in Lahore and burning of their properties. He termed the incident a flagrant failure of the Punjab government. He also expressed complete solidarity and sympathies to the Christian family on the outrageous incident.
Mr Hussain said that the Christian community was attacked in a similar incident in Gojra town in the Punjab province. A Church was burned down and houses of people belonging to the Christian community were set on fire. The same history has been repeated today in the Badami Bagh Noor Mohalla of Lahore.
