The Coordination Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned the illegal abduction of senior members of the MQM Legal Aid Committee

The Coordination Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned the illegal abduction of senior members of the MQM Legal Aid Committee, Advocate Idrees Alvi and Advocate Muhammad Suleman, who were once again forcibly taken away today from outside the main gate of Central Jail Karachi. The Coordination Committee stated that Advocate Idrees Alvi and Advocate Muhammad Suleman had been arrested by Sindh Police’s Mithadar Police Station on 11 June 2026 and were subsequently held in judicial custody. On 20 June 2026, the Anti-Terrorism Court-II (ATC-II) granted them bail. Today, after the submission of surety bonds, both lawyers were released from Central Jail Karachi. However, at approximately 8:00 PM, plainclothes personnel along with Sindh Police forcibly assaulted and seized them outside the main gate of the jail, in full view of their family members and legal representatives, without presenting any warrant or legal authorization. According to the Coordination Committee, police vehicles from Zaman Town and Korangi Industrial Area were also present during the operation. Re-arresting individuals immediately after a court has granted bail and ordered their release constitutes a blatant violation of the law, the Constitution, due process, judicial authority, and fundamental human rights. The Coordination Committee further stated that such actions against innocent MQM workers, sympathizers, and individuals providing legal assistance are a continuation of political victimization, state repression, and unlawful conduct. If any MQM worker is accused of an offence, they must be produced before a court of law and dealt with in accordance with legal procedures, rather than being forcibly disappeared by plainclothes personnel. The Coordination Committee has called upon the Chief Justice of Pakistan, the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, the Inspector General of Sindh Police, the Sindh Home Department, human rights organizations, the Sindh Bar Council, the Karachi Bar Association, and the legal community to take immediate notice of the illegal abduction of Advocate Idrees Alvi and Advocate Muhammad Suleman and to take urgent measures to ensure their safe recovery. The Coordination Committee demands the immediate release of both lawyers or, alternatively, that they be produced before a competent court of law without delay. It further calls for a transparent investigation into this unlawful action and for all those responsible to be held accountable under the law.
