As Karachi burns, devolution, not division, is the answer

The mayhem in Karachi in which twelve innocent lives were lost during a rally on May 22 again points to a malaise we refuse to see, much less feel and understand. The rally itself was only incidental. It was ostensibly against a recent spate of wall chalking in Karachi propagating the creation of “Mohajir Sooba”. In reality, it was symptomatic of a deeper crisis. The crisis of confidence, lack of it actually, in any authority, be it administrative or political.

CERTAIN ELEMENTS IN SINDH ARE TRYING TO SPARK OFF VIOLENCE IN SINDH The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned the incident of firing on a passenger bus bound for Kohat near the town of Qazi Ahmed in Sindh by armed terrorists. The committee expressed its grief and sorrow over the deaths of several persons in the attack and injuries suffered by some other passengers.

Members of Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have denounced the forced marriage of 13 years old girl with a 60 years old man in Peshawar. Mr Gulfraz Khan Khattak and Mr Yusuf Shahwani condemned the incident and said that the forced marriage of the young girl, subjecting her to bodily torture and keeping her in chains was disgusting.

MQM MNAs CONDEMN YET ANOTHER HIKE IN POWER TARIFF

MQM MNAs have strongly condemned the increase in power tariff by Rs 2.38 per unit and called for immediate withdrawal as it would compound problems of the general public. They said that in spite of increasing power charges people were facing long power outages that had disrupted normal life.
