Altaf Hussain congratulates people on the passing of the local government ordinance by Sindh Assembly
News Report

The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has congratulated the oppressed and downtrodden people of Pakistan and particularly the people of Sindh on the passing of the Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance 2012 with a majority. He also praised President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, and elected representatives of the MQM and the PPP for making tireless efforts in the preparation of the new local government ordinance and getting it passed from the Sindh Assembly.
Mr Hussain said that the local government system was the real essence of democracy, and its opponents were against democracy. They did not want to devolve power to the lowest level in order to maintain their fierce grip on power for exploiting people. He said that the developed countries of the world were moving ahead on the path of peace, progress and prosperity by adopting the local government system.
Mr Hussain said that it was the need to of the hour to use the local government system in the larger interest of the public and for determining new ways of making progress. A new leaf should be turned over, and a new chapter of progress and development should begin by ending uncalled-for opposition of the local government system.
