PUKKA QILLA CARNAGE WAS THE DARKEST TRAGEDY IN THE HISTORY OF PAKISTAN: ALTAF HUSSAIN

“On May 26, 27, 1990, Benazir Bhutto's tyrant government inflicted colossal loss to the people of Pukka Qilla in Hyderabad – She ordered massacre of Mohajirs who resided in Pukka Qilla – Pukka Qilla was the darkest tragedy that Benazir Bhutto had designed and implemented -  Police force of entire Sindh province was sent to Hyderabad’s Pukka Qilla to carry indiscriminate massacre of Mohajirs – Mohajirs will never forget and will never forgive the planners and executers of Pukka Qilla carnage”

LONDON. May 26, 2021: Muttahida Quami Movement’s (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain has said that Pukka Qilla carnage on May 26, 27, 1990 is the darkest tragedy in the history of Pakistan. It was the worst state oppression in which innocent and peaceful citizens were bathed in blood.

In a statement on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the martyrs of the Pukka Qilla tragedy, the MQM supremo Altaf Hussain said that on May 26, 1990, the then Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto government, in the name of arresting the Mohajir youth, carried out a military operation at the Pukka Qilla in Hyderabad and used Sindh Police as butcher.

Armed with latest automatic weapons, Police personnel robbed every single house in the Pukka Qilla premise and the had insulted and raped Mohajir women, and even mosques were desecrated. Police held the entire locality under siege for two days and had disconnected all connections of water supply, electricity and gas.

On protesting peacefully, Police shot women who had held the holy Quran on their heads. They were shot bullets in the heads.  Subsequently, more than 50 women and senescent citizens were murdered. Hundreds of Mohajirs were seriously injured.

Hussain said that the ruthless PPP government did not allow the bodies to be taken to the graveyard for burial and hence the bodies of those martyred were buried within the premise of Pukka Qilla. The graves of the martyrs are still present in the Pukka Qilla.

He said that the tyranny and barbarism was perpetrated by Benazir Bhutto's government at Pukka Qilla in Hyderabad on May 26 and 27, 1990 and it is one of the darkest tragedies in history of the country, which Mohajirs will neither forget nor will forgive.

Hussain while paying homage to all the martyrs of Pukka Qilla carnage said that Mohajirs at Pukka Qilla bravely stood up against the state atrocities and laid their lives and sent a strong message to the world that they resisted the tyrant oppressors.

He offered prayers for the departed souls of Mohajir martyrs.
