The United States and Israel are expected to soon appeal to #Iran to halt its military actions #IranIsraelWar #IranUsIsraelWar What prevents the United Nations from holding the United States and Israel accountable for their unwarranted aggression against Iran ? - Altaf Hussain ........................... Should the powers that hold veto privileges within the Security Council, particularly the five dominant nations, be eliminated? Iran is an independent and sovereign nation. However, for over four decades, the US, Israel, and their Western allies have subjected Iran to numerous economic sanctions and trade restrictions, citing various accusations. In spite of these challenges, Iran has stood resiliently against the pressures. When Iran commenced uranium enrichment for energy purposes, the United States and Israel, along with their allies, initiated a campaign alleging that Iran aimed to develop nuclear weapons. Iran has consistently denied these claims in the past. Recently, the United States resumed its global campaign asserting that Iran was advancing its nuclear arsenal. Efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran began on February 6, 2026, facilitated by Oman. During these discussions, Iran was presented with the stipulation that it refrain from nuclear weapons development. Iran consented to limit uranium enrichment to 3 percent, solely for energy generation. Nonetheless, the legitimacy of this condition is debatable. Under what international law is it justified for a select few nations, such as the U.S., to enrich uranium and develop nuclear arms while prohibiting Iran or any other nation from even enriching uranium, needless to say from acquiring nuclear weapons? Iran's significant 'offense' lies in its refusal to acquiesce to the unjust practices of the U.S. and its allies. Consequently, Iran faces intolerance, accompanied by threats of annihilation. After 21 days of discussions, on February 27, Iran accepted all U.S. conditions in pursuit of peace. Yet, on February 28, an unprovoked act of aggression was executed against Iran by the U.S. and Israel. This assault resulted in the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and approximately 40 high-ranking government and military officials. In addition, a school in Tehran was bombed, claiming the lives of 168 innocent girls. My inquiry is: if an agreement had already been reached between Iran and the United States, what prompted the attack? Is this not a blatant act of dishonesty and deceit towards Iran? Does this not constitute a breach of the United Nations Charter and global norms? Why has the United Nations refrained from demanding accountability from the U.S. and Israel for this unprovoked act of aggression? Does any provision in the UN Charter endorse a powerful nation attacking a weaker one solely based on its might? What type of justice can exist when a member of the Security Council can simply veto a resolution that the United Nations tries to enact against such acts of aggression? Does this not contradict the very essence of justice? Would it not make more sense to eliminate the veto power held by the Security Council and its five most powerful nations? The military action initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran has not only set the Gulf states and the broader Middle East ablaze with conflict but has also had dire consequences for global stability and the world economy. The expectation from the United States and Israel was that an assault on Iran would lead to its leaders capitulating, surrendering, and begging for clemency. However, the reality has unfolded in a drastically different manner. Now, into the twelfth day of the conflict, relentless bombardments by the United States and Israel continue to strike Iran. Critical Iranian infrastructures, significant historical sites, and civilian areas are under attack. Lives are being lost. Yet, rather than yielding, Iran responds with unwavering resistance. The Iranian populace is displaying remarkable bravery and making considerable sacrifices. #Iran #IranIsraelWar Given these developments, I suspect that the United States and Israel will soon find themselves imploring Iran to cease hostilities, facing a humiliating defeat in their efforts. From my perspective, Iran has demonstrated through its actions that it stands alone as the only authentic Islamic nation in the modern world. The so-called Islamic countries have brought shame upon the Muslim community by currying favour with superpowers. Referring to such nations as "Islamic" is a slight against Islam itself.
