Statement by the Founder and Leader of MQM, Altaf Hussain, on the Failure of Negotiations Between the United States and Iran #IslamabadTalks #IslamabadPeaceTalks The failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran is regrettable and concerning. It reflects the continued failure of diplomatic efforts aimed at ending conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, establishing lasting peace in the region, and resolving international disputes. The recent talks between the United States and Iran, which continued for more than 21 hours, ended without any agreement. Statements issued by both sides clearly indicate that, in light of past experiences, mutual distrust remained a dominant factor in the negotiation process. I believe that no dialogue can succeed unless both parties recognize each other’s existence and rights under the universal principle of peaceful coexistence and “live and let live.” If one party, instead of recognizing the other’s rights, attempts to impose its conditions through force, it cannot be acceptable to any self-respecting side. Such an approach leads only to failure of negotiations and increased tensions. It is a fact that Iran has been subjected to various unjust sanctions by the United States and its allies for the past 40 years. Furthermore, repeated violations of agreements and unprovoked attacks have deeply damaged Iran’s trust. Despite mistrust and serious concerns, Iran participated in the recent negotiations with the United States—mediated by Pakistan—with the aim of achieving a complete end to the conflict. Iran, which is a directly affected party in this matter, showed willingness, but unfortunately the talks concluded without any agreement. The people of Iran and the broader Middle East are already facing significant hardships due to unjust sanctions, unprovoked attacks, and imposed conflict. The entire region is currently engulfed in instability. In such a situation, the failure of these negotiations poses a serious threat not only to regional peace but may also escalate tensions, potentially causing devastating consequences for both the Middle East and global stability. I believe that war and confrontation are not solutions to complex political problems. The international community should play its role in bringing both countries back to the negotiating table with sincerity, flexibility, and a commitment to peaceful coexistence. It is essential that the leadership of all parties prioritize humanity, economic stability, and lasting peace over rigid positions and power struggles. I appeal to global powers, the United Nations, and peace-loving nations to intensify diplomatic efforts and prevent the situation from deteriorating further. Lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, reconciliation, mutual respect, and recognition of each other’s legitimate rights—not through the use of force.
