Issuing contempt notice against Altaf Hussain is in utter contravention of norms of justice: MQM

A joint meeting of the Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) was held in London and Pakistan today in order to discuss the contempt of court notice issued to the MQM Founder and Leader Mr Altaf Hussain by the Supreme Court. The meeting unanimously agreed that the contempt notice against Mr Hussain is against the norms of justice as the comments made by the honourable judge of a particular bench of the Supreme Court on 28th November calling for new delimitations in Karachi so that no single party had a monopoly were unconstitutional, illegal, undemocratic, and an affront to the mandate of the people.

Such cowardly acts are bringing a bad name to the country The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has expressed grief and sorrow on the death of Swedish Social Worker Birgitta Alemby who was shot by armed terrorists in Lahore a few days ago. It condemned the cowardly acts of targeting volunteers of NGOs in the country and said that such acts are bringing a bad name to the country in the world. It demanded President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik to take notice of the killing of the Swedish women who was running orphanages in Lahore. The committee urged upon them to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Current situation in the country, challenges facing Pakistan and the continuing sectarian killings in Karachi were discussed in detail in the meeting. The MQM delegation included members of the Co-ordination Committee Mr Wasim Aftab, Mr Saif Yar Khan, provincial minister Khalid Umer, MPA Abdul Rauf Siddiqui and office-bearers of the Ulema Committee of the MQM.

Asks Gulfaraz Khattak and Yousuf Shahwani to increase the pace of organizational work in the two provinces The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement telephoned at Khursheed Begum Secretariat and obtained information about organisational activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan from Pakhtun member of the Co-ordination Committee Mr Gulfaraz Khattak and Baloch member Mr Yousuf Shahwani. He asked them to convey his greetings and prayers to the people of both the provinces and increase the pace of organizational activities there. He said that the MQM would public meetings in both the provinces soon.

People belonging to the poor and middle classes should mount a concerted effort against the monolith of feudalism The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has said that the problems of the poor and oppressed people throughout the country are similar in nature. Their problems have nothing to do with their nationality, language, race, colour, religion or sect. He said that the oppressed people should get united and make a concerted effort against the monolith of feudalism and serfdom. He expressed these views while talking to the members of the various committees at Nine Zero.
