Altaf raises key questions over PIMS hospital inferno, Imran Khan's medical treatment, Pakistan's political situation
LONDON. UK. - August 28: Muttahida Quami Movement's (MQM) founding leader and the Supremo, Altaf Hussain has posed several inquiries about the passing of 14 infants in a blaze at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, PIMS, located in Islamabad.
He is demanding a clear investigation into this unfortunate event and wants those responsible for any possible carelessness to be held accountable.
During his 458th urgent discussion held on TikTok on August 28, 2026, Hussain asked why the results of the investigation regarding the baby deaths have not been shared with the public yet.
He wanted to know the reasons behind the deaths of the 14 babies in the fire and why the doors to the nursery and emergency exits were reported to be shut or hard to reach.
He also expressed worries about whether there were fire extinguishers and proper fire-safety measures in place at the hospital.
He further inquired if PIMS had a working fire alarm system and if it did, then why it was reportedly not turned on when the fire started.
He said the incident raised serious questions about the responsibilities of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and other hospital employees during an emergency.
“Grown-up patients can ask for help and might be able to get around by themselves, but tiny babies cannot call out for help or get away,” he mentioned, wondering why the babies were supposedly not saved quickly enough.
He also pointed out the lack of obvious consequences for the Executive Director of PIMS Hospital, claiming that the official had backing from powerful people in the current government.
Hussain also expressed worries about the health care given to PTI leader Imran Khan.
He mentioned that the Supreme Court ordered for Imran Khan to be moved to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours, where he should receive a thorough medical check-up and be assessed by a team of expert doctors.
On the other hand, Hussain claimed that the government did not fully follow the Supreme Court's orders and took Imran Khan to PIMS Hospital instead.
He accused them of not having electricity at the hospital during that time, lacking a working ECG machine, and the CT scan machine was said to be out of order.
He stated that the hospital team measured Imran Khan's blood pressure, gave him a shot in his eye, and then moved him back to Adiala Jail.
He accused that moving Imran Khan to PIMS was a strategy meant to hurt him, but he did not provide any independent proof during his speech.
He mentioned that the public's knowledge of what was going on stopped the supposed plan from working.
He asked why Imran Khan was moved from Shifa International Hospital to PIMS and then sent back to Adiala Jail.
“These questions might seem easy, but shouldn’t they be thought about deeply?” he inquired.
Focusing on the issues in Kashmir, Hussain raised doubts about the reports stating that over 100 Kashmiris lost their lives during protests and condemned claims branding the Awami Joint Action Committee as supporters of India and RAW.
He mentioned that similar accusations were once made against PTI and Imran Khan.
Referring to information about Baloch women leaders, Hussain stated that even with reported dangers and promises of money for capturing them, the spirit of the Baloch people was still very strong.
He quoted a line, saying:
"Even if someone puts a bounty on us, We will continue to say: Keep your heads up high."
Hussain also mentioned a supposed event that took place involving students at Sarhad University in Islamabad.
He wondered why, rather than addressing the situation with a military officer who was blamed for attacking students and firing shots, it appeared that complaints were filed against the students who took part in calm demonstrations.
He mentioned that students were said to have been detained and locked up, noting that these events brought up major concerns regarding the trust people have in the nation's organizations.
“In these situations, who will chant in favor of Pakistan and this system?” he inquired.
Hussain mentioned that a government ought to look after its people just like a mother would.
He insisted that countries thrive and grow when they take care of their people, ensuring their safety, respect, and rights.
“A mother is prepared to give up her own life to keep her children safe,” he stated, emphasizing that the institutions in Pakistan should show the same dedication to the protection and well-being of its people.
Talking about the circumstances in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Altaf Hussain urged the Pashtun community to ask why, in his view, armed religious schools were set up instead of places of higher learning like colleges and universities.
He mentioned targeted drone attacks and military actions carried out under various titles to combat terrorism.
He claimed that many Pashtuns had to leave their homes and were made to live as internally displaced persons in shelters within their own nation.
He further alleged that thousands had lost their lives during military operations, while terrorism continued to persist in the province.
“Why has terrorism still not been eliminated?” he asked.
Hussain also referred to reports suggesting that some police personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had allegedly refused to participate in certain operations, claiming that individuals they arrested were later ordered to be released.
He raised doubts about the situation related to these accusations and inquired, “What is actually going on in this nation?”
Hussain stated that a legal petition was submitted to the Supreme Court in 1994 by Barrister Dr Farooq Hasan regarding claims of unfair treatment, loss of rights, and government actions against Muhajirs.
He expressed disappointment that, in his view, the issue has yet to be addressed.
He also mentioned that each time he spoke up about these matters, limits were placed on sharing his speeches and writings.
Hussain reported that a prohibition was established by the Lahore High Court in September 2015 for an initial term of half a year. He stated that these limitations lasted for around 11 years and were still in effect during Imran Khan's administration too.
“I have always called for Imran Khan's release”
Hussain expressed that following the ousting of Imran Khan from office and his later detention, he had always called for the freedom of the PTI leader and other members of the party.
He stated that he had often voiced his concerns about what he considered unfair treatment and revenge actions targeting Imran Khan and his relatives.
“Even now, if anyone is persistently speaking out strongly against the wrongs being done to Imran Khan and his family, it is Altaf Hussain,” he mentioned.
He shared his sadness that, in his opinion, PTI leaders had not recognized the help he provided.
Hussain mentioned that he devoted his life to fighting for the rights of the people of Pakistan and had lived in exile in London for 34 years.
He stated that no prominent political figure in Pakistan had spoken out for the return of his Pakistani passport and the lifting of the limitations placed on him.
