MQM Holds Protest at Pakistan Consulate in Houston Against Defamatory Allegations
Houston, Texas – May 30, 2025:
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) USA – Houston Chapter staged a powerful and peaceful protest outside the Pakistani Consulate in Houston on Friday, denouncing what they called false and defamatory allegations made against the Mohajir community, MQM, and its founder, Mr. Altaf Hussain.
The demonstration was a direct response to remarks and a controversial video documentary showcased under the supervision of Pakistan’s Consul General Aftab Chaudhry during a “Youm-e-Tashakur” event held in Dallas on May 23. The video reportedly accused MQM and its leadership of links to India’s intelligence agency RAW—claims MQM leaders categorically rejected as baseless and inflammatory.
Despite intense heat, the protest drew a large turnout of MQM supporters, including women, senior citizens, and children, who came together to voice solidarity with their leader and to defend the dignity of the Mohajir nation. Chants of “Long Live Altaf Hussain,” “We Made Pakistan, We Will Save Pakistan,” and “Lift the Unconstitutional Ban on Altaf Hussain” rang through the crowd.
Protesters condemned the Consul General’s actions, accusing him of violating diplomatic norms and spreading divisive narratives. “These accusations are not only false, but they insult the sacrifices of millions of Mohajirs who helped build Pakistan,” said one protestor. “A state-appointed diplomat should unify, not spread hatred.”
In a formal move, MQM Rabita Committee Member Syed Atif Shamim, along with local MQM leadership including Houston Chapter In-charge Fawad Ahmed and Joint In-charges Syed Asim Rizvi and Waseem Ahmed, submitted a condemnation petition to consulate officials. The petition, submitted on behalf of overseas Pakistanis, demanded a public apology from Aftab Chaudhry and called on the Government of Pakistan to take disciplinary action against him.
The petition further urged the Pakistani Foreign Ministry to ensure that all diplomats abroad maintain political neutrality, promote unity among expatriate communities, and respect all ethnic groups.
MQM officials reiterated their commitment to peaceful and democratic struggle for justice and the recognition of Mohajir rights under the leadership of Mr. Altaf Hussain. They called on the government to address the incident urgently and to ensure that such diplomatic misconduct is not repeated.
This protest marks a significant moment for overseas MQM supporters, who remain actively engaged in defending their political identity and seeking justice for the Mohajir community.
