MQM Women Wing condemns death sentence to women in Kohistan by a Jirga

In-charge of the Women Wing of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and members of the committee has strongly condemned the giving of death sentence to four women in Kohistan on the mere act of singing songs in a mehndi function in Kohistan by a jirga. They also condemned the worst repression on women in southern Punjab and the interior Sindh.
They said that according to a report 114 women were put to death in the most barbaric manner in only one part of Pakistan from 1st January to 30th May which should be a cause of concern for the government and the law-enforcing agencies. They asked how long would the women suffer like this in Pakistan.
They said it was unfortunate that even small girls were being made victim of sexual assault. The MQM was instrumental in the passage of the Women Rights Bill in the National Assembly but regretted that it was not being implemented by the government.
Ms Zehra demanded of the government to take effective steps for ending injustices against women in the country. She also called for the implementation of the laws passed for the protection of women.
