LONDON. [UK]. September 25: The divisional bench of the Sindh High Court - or - SHC, has refused a request for forthwith hearing of the petition on the enforced disappearance of senior MQM leaders Nisar Ahmed Panhwar and Anwar Khan Tareen and has ordered to maintain the next hearing date as October 21, 2025.
According to the details, Senior MQM members Panhwar and Tareen had left Gulshan-e Hadeed on September 16, 2025, in connection with an organisational programme However, they were unlawfully abducted and forced to disappear by unknown masked persons en route.
Immediately after they had been abducted, their family members had moved the court of law and had filed a CP on habeas corpus in the SHC on September 17, 2025 whose first hearing was held on September 19, and the SHC issued notices to the parties concerned and had fixed the next hearing one month later on October 21.
On September 23, the counsels of Sr MQM leaders Panhwar and Tareen، Advocate Johar Abid, Advocate Idrees Alvi, Advocate Haseeb Panhwar, and Advocate Jamal Nazar Panhwar, submitted an application in the SHC requesting that the hearing date be fixed immediately.
The divisional bench of Acting Chief Justice Zafar Rajput and Justice Miran Muhammad Shah of the SHC heard this urgent petition today.
During the hearing, the counsels requested the bench that Panhwar and Tareen are diabetic and cardiac patients, and are breadwinners for their families, their ATM cards are also with them due to which their families are facing severe pecuniary difficulties in meeting daily essentials, their continued disappearance has subjected the families of both leaders to intense mental anguish and torture and their families are extremely worried regarding their life and safety.
The next hearing date of October 21 fixed by the SHC is far flung, henceforth, keeping in view the dangers to the lives of Panhwar and Tareen and the worries of their families, the petition should be heard immediately.
After hearing all the arguments of the counsels, the honourable judges rejected the request for immediate hearing by putting aside all legal and human requirements and said that the date of October 21 fixed for the next hearing of the petition against the enforced disappearance of Panhwar and Tareen cannot be shortened, the relevant parties have been issued summons for October 21, therefore, the case will proceed on that date.
It should be noted that Panhwar and Tareen had disappeared on September 16 and it has been ten days since they have returned home. They haven't been produced in any court of law, either.
