"The supreme martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) and the revered household of the Prophet (PBUH) on the battlefield of Karbala remains an eternal symbol of courage and resistance for all who rise against injustice and uphold the cause of righteousness." The incidents of Karbala precisely define the line between justice and oppression. The savagism inflicted upon the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the prophet's family was not just a tragic chapter in Islamic history, it was an atrocity unmatched in the chronicles of mankind. If one chooses to view the incident of Karbala beyond sectarian boundaries, it becomes evident that the barbarity inflicted upon the household of the Prophet (PBUH) cannot be found elsewhere in human history. The very grandson whose neck the Prophet once kissed was beheaded. His son, Ali Akbar, a mirror image of the Prophet in appearance and conduct, was slain. Even a six-month-old infant, Hazrat Ali Asghar, was not spared—he was struck down with an arrow while cradled in his father's arms. The family of the Prophet (PBUH) was denied water, their tents were burned, the women were dishonored, and the children were subjected to cruelty. The only reason for this persecution was their refusal to submit to the unjust rule of Yazid. I wish to raise a few questions that remain relevant even today. When the caliphate was converted into monarchy and Yazid ascended the throne, why did the Companions of the Prophet (PBUH) who were still alive not speak out? Why did they not challenge the rule of a tyrant known for his immorality and impiety? Why did those who spent years in the blessed company of the Prophet not rally behind his grandson, Imam Hussain (A.S)? Why did only a handful from the Prophet’s family stand up against the Yazid? And when Imam Hussain and his loved ones were surrounded and tortured in Karbala, why did the rest of the Muslim world remain silent? Why did no massive movement emerge to support the oppressed and confront the oppressors? Today, whether Shiite, Sunnite, or followers of any sect, everyone acknowledges the severity of the suffering faced by Imam Hussain and the Prophet's family. No one can deny such barbarism. It is for this very reason that the world continues to mourn the martyrs of Karbala during the month of Muharram. There is no other incident in human history that is observed with such profound grief across nations and generations. This ongoing remembrance is proof of the truth and righteousness of Imam Hussain (A.S). His name, message, and spirit remain alive in the hearts of people around the globe. The legacy of Imam Hussain (A.S) and the Prophet's family calls upon us to uphold truth and never surrender to oppression. May Allah grant us the courage to follow their noble path. May our end come with unwavering faith, and may that faith be reflected in our practical struggle for truth and justice. I also pray that, through the blessings of the martyrs of Karbala, Allah grants eternal peace to our own martyrs and elevates them to the highest place in Paradise. Altaf Hussain.
