STOPPING PEACEFUL PROTEST IS THE EMBODIMENT OF FASCISM - Altaf Hussain
October 4, 2024:
#DChowkProtest
Under the directives of the current federal government, the #Islamabad police unleashed a barrage of ruthless tear gas on peaceful demonstrators associated with
, inflicting severe violence upon them. Among the hundreds of protesters subjected to this brutality were female members of the party, including the sisters of PTI leader
I vehemently denounce the unjust and unlawful arrests of these peaceful protesters.
Isn’t this violent suppression by the police, in obedience to the government, a blatant violation of both the constitution and the rule of law? Does it not desecrate the sanctity of homes and civil liberties?
The current regime has showcased an alarming abuse of state power in its desperate attempt to stifle PTI’s protest at “D Chowk” in Islamabad. In retaliation against a demonstration opposing a constitutional amendment, the government erected a blockade of hundreds of containers, obstructing all routes leading into Islamabad. This tyrannical display of authority deprived the citizens of their democratic, constitutional, and legal right to peaceful assembly. Instead of engaging, they attacked—deploying thousands of tear gas shells, brutally assaulting peaceful protesters, and arresting hundreds indiscriminately, including Imran Khan’s sisters. This is an outrage and must be condemned in the strongest terms.
The government's draconian actions confirm its fascist tendencies. By unlawfully deploying excessive force, the regime has stripped the people of their fundamental rights. Such undemocratic actions are not only unconstitutional but also morally reprehensible.
The arrests of peaceful demonstrators are both illegal and cruel. I resolutely condemn this fascist maneuver and urge all Pakistanis to rise against this violation of civil liberties.
I also call upon international human rights organizations, including Amnesty International
,
and Human Rights Watch
to take immediate notice of the government's brutal crackdown on peaceful PTI protesters. These organizations must exert pressure to ensure the immediate release of all detainees, including Imran Khan’s sisters, Ms.
and Ms. Uzma Khan.
Faced with such brazen tyranny, one must question:
“What kind of Islamic Republic is this?"
“What has become of Pakistan, once a sanctuary of justice and freedom?"
