MQM's hunger strike enters second day

KARACHI: MQM workers continued their hunger strike for another day as a sign of protest against the arrests of their party workers and frequent raids on their unit offices.
The hunger strike is led by MQM Rabta Committee member Aslam Khan Afridi. MQM spokesperson said that the party is left with no option but to go on a hunger strike. However according to sources within the party, MQM is planning to opt for other ways of protests as well, since the party is contemplating resigning from all elected forums to register a strong protest against the arrests of their workers. 

Party workers are also part of the hunger strike organized by the Rabita Committee. A contingent of police and Rangers are deployed close by to the Karachi Press Club where the hunger strike of the party workers and loyalists are on a hunger strike. MQM's elected members of the assembly are also expected to be part of the protest.

The previous day, MQM had distanced itself from the terms of reference parliamentary committee and said that an unannounced ban had been imposed on their political activities.
