MQM strongly condemns DAGs’ stance in petition before SCP

MQM strongly condemns DAGs’ stance in petition before SCP
 Posted on: 11/3/2015
Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) strongly reacted to a legal position taken by a law officer of the federal government before Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) during hearing of a petition filed by MQM against a ban on media coverage of Altaf Hussains speeches, address etc.
Dr Farooq Sattar leader of the MQM in the National Assembly addressing a hurriedly called press conference at Khursheed Begum Secretariat Azizabad in a scathing criticism of Nawaz government said that government shall not hide behind a private petition and shall come out openly.
The stance taken by the Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan in the court today with the instructions from the federal government shows that government has resorted to double standard, said Dr farooq Sattar.
On one hand government is assuring us that government is not in favor of ban on speeches and addresses by MQM Chief while on the other hand, it is taking refuge behind a private petition, a DAG’s statement that speeches by MQM chief tantamount to High Treason is shocking for us, he said adding that if government considers speeches by Altaf Hussain as high treason then they should proceed under the relevant law.
MQM during negotiation about withdrawal of resignations was told that government only intends to regulate the speeches and address by MQM chief through PEMRA and black out is not the policy of the government.
We have tried to contact Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, Pervez Rasheed and Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) over the issue.
AGP Salman Butt has expressed ignorance about what happened in court today and what stance was taken by his representative. This is unbelievable and indigestible for us, MQM’s senior leader said hoping that media would be reacting by giving coverage to MQM chief as interim order passed by the Lahore High Court lapsed after 15 days and now no ban by any court exists.
