Altaf Hussain condemns raid by the Punjab police at the house of Aftakhar Randhawa in Jehanian
 Posted on: 2/13/2013
PML (N) government in Punjab had transformed the province into a police state
The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has strongly condemned the raid on the home of the member of the Co-ordination Committee Aftkhar Randhawa in Tehsil Jehanian of Khanewal in the Punjab province. He said that the office-bearers of MQM Southern Punjab and Central Punjab had come to the house of Aftakhar Randhawa for offering condolences on the death of his cousin Akhtar Ali Randhawa.
The local police carried out a raid on the house of Aftakhar Randhawa as soon as the office-bearers left after offering their condolences. The police searched the entire house and harassed women and other members of the family. When the police officers were asked about the reason for the raid, they said that they had received orders from above.
Mr Hussain said that the PML (N) government in Punjab was disturbed on the wide acceptance of the MQM’s message in province, and it was using repressive powers of the government against local office-bearers and workers of the MQM. He said that the PML (N) leaderships, who were always making tall claims about democracy, civil liberties and political freedom, had transformed Punjab into a police state.
He called for action against the police officers who carried out the unwarranted raid on the house of Aftakhar Randhawa and said that victimization of political opponents must end.
