The USA and Canada chapters of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) organized demonstrations to protest against the brutal killing of MPA Manzar Imam, rising wave of religious extremism, unremitting terrorism and the spread of Talibanization in Pakistan. Demonstrations were held in over 20 major cities of USA and Canada, and candlelight vigil was observed to pay homage to late Manzar Imam, his driver and two security guards.
Members of Pakistani community in Houston, Dallas, Washington DC, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal and Ottawa turned out in large numbers to take part in the demonstrations. Patron of MQM North America Ibad-ur-Rehman and other office-bearers attended the demonstrations.
Speaking at the demonstrations in Toronto and Montreal, Central Organizer of MQM USA Junaid Fehmi and Joint Organizer of MQM Canada, said that the killing of MQM’s member of the Sindh Assembly was, in fact, an attack on the Quaid-i-Azam’s Pakistan. They said that the unequivocal stance of Mr Altaf Hussain has united the moderate and enlightened people against the spread of Talibanization in Pakistan. They said that the active participation of the Pakistani community in the protest demonstrations has established that the people of Pakistan were not ready to surrender before extremist and terrorist organizations.
Speaking at various other demonstrations, the office-bearers of MQM Canada stressed on the need for the unity of the Pakistani nation against terrorism. Participants were carrying placards condemning terrorism and the Taliban.
Prayers were also offered for the martyred MPA Manzar Imam, his driver, two security guards and all others who fell victim of terrorism in Pakistan.
