KARACHI: Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), Altaf Hussain, has said that the MQM believes in the principle of politics for serving the people, and its struggle was not aimed at acquiring power only.

He said this while talking to the office-bearers, workers and nominated candidates of the MQM in Mirpurkhas.

Altaf Hussain announced the names of the MQM candidates from Mirpurkhas for the coming elections during his telephonic meeting.

Hussain said that the elected representatives of the MQM live among the people and remain with them in their happiness and sorrow while others make hollow claims at the time of elections for deceiving the people.

"Whether it was severe drought or the devastation caused by heavy flooding, the MQM always helped the affected people. Serving the humanity is the manifesto of the MQM, and it always served people, whether it was in government or not" said he.

He added that this time some so-called nationalist leaders had also come in the field in order to take advantage by fomenting differences between the permanent residents of Sindh by making hateful speeches.

However, these opportunist elements should know that discrimination of new and old Sindhis has ended as those whose life and death is tied with Sindh are all Sindhis.

MQM leader said that the politically aware people of Mirpurkhas belonging to diverse ethnic backgrounds, and religious minorities were getting united under the flag of the MQM, and they would frustrate every conspiracy with their unity.

Hussain said that Sindh contributes nearly 70 percent of the total revenues in the national exchequer, but it is denied of its legitimate rights. The MQM is the only political party that has steadfastly struggled for the rights of the people of Sindh. Whether it was the issue of Kala Bagh dam or the distribution of resources through the NFC award, the MQM had always fought the case of Sindh forcefully.

He said that he would never compromise on the rights of Sindh. He said that he would sacrifice his life instead of doing a deal on the rights of Sindh.

He paid rich tributes to women workers and said that the MQM would give surprising results on 11th May due to their hard work. He said that farmers, peasants, workers and students belonging to all social and ethnic backgrounds would visit polling stations on the polling day and cast their vote in favour of the MQM.

Mr Hussain announced names of candidates for national and provincial assemblies. Shabbir Qaimi is the MQM nominated candidate for NA – 226, Muhammad Shafique for NA – 227, Dr Zafar Kamali for PS – 64, Sadiq Hussain for PS – 65, Ali Hassan Qaimkhani for PS – 66 and Ajaz Ali for PS – 67.
