 Posted on: 7/10/2014
An MQM delegation led by Deputy Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Governor House to discuss various issues of Karachi.

The meeting was held under a pleasant atmosphere, in which Prime Minister was thoroughly briefed all abouts of current and proposed development projects in the mega city. The delegation was comprised of Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Dr Farooq Sattar and Babar Khan Ghouri, while Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan was also present there.

The delegation discussed mega projects, which were unfortunately abandoned because of lack of funding, including K-4 Project, Karachi Mass Transit Project, Layari Express Way and Southern Bypass to connect Karachi harbour to M-9 Motorway. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved 260-MGD excess water in first stage for Karachiites through K-4 Project.

For Karachi Mass Transit Project, Prime Minister firstly approved 14 billion rupees fund for Green Line Metro Bus. Meanwhile the PM also approved 7 billion rupees fund for Layari Expressway, especially the five kilometer strip which was abandoned due to lack of funding.

The delegation successfully motivated the prime minister to approve another long pending project Malir Expressway or Southern Bypass to allocate fund of 42 billion rupees to build 67 kilometers road to link it to M-9 Motorway Project. Prime Minister appreciated MQM for taking keen interest in public welfare projects and ensured the delegation that he would allocate appropriate funds for Karachi Circular Railway, a university in Hyderabad, and various projects for Sukkur, nawabshah and Larkana. The MQM delagtion thanked Prime Minister Nawaz sharif for taking interest in MQM proposed projects and allocating funds for them.
