When will PM Notice the Killing of MQM Workers in Karachi? Altaf Hussain
MQM is being punished to express solidarity with the country's armed forces
London - March 7, 2014
Mr Altaf Hussain, Founder and Leader of MQM, has vehemently condemned the killings of two MQM workers and supporters in Gulbahar area of Karachi. He said that MQM worker Muhammad Ali was sitting with an MQM supporter Hamid in a restaurant on Friday evening when four assailant riding on two motorcycles targeted them. Hamid died at the spot whereas MQM worker Muhammad Ali succumbed to injuries at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
"Since the day MQM held a massive public rally in Karachi to express solidarity with the country's armed forces a relentless campaign of target killings has been leashed against MQM workers and supporters leaving 14 MQM workers and supporters dead. Two MQM workers, Hamid and Khalid, were killed on 28 February in Nazimabad; two days later in-charge of MQM's Facts Finding Committee Mushtaq Ahmed was killed in Samanabad, and now two more workers have been assassinated", said Mr Altaf Hussain.
While condemning these killings, Mr Hussain added that MQM workers are being routinely targeted in Karachi despite the fact that thousands of personnel of law enforcement agencies are carrying out a Targeted Operation in Karachi against criminals and terrorists. Despite the presence of large number of law enforcement agencies' personnel on Karachi's streets, neither the killing of MQM workers and supporters has stopped nor their killers are being apprehended.
"On one hand, negotiations are being held with the Taliban and, on the other hand, sectarian outfits have been unleashed to target MQM workers and supporters. It seems that MQM is being punished to express solidarity with the country's armed forces. It is also evident that anti-state and anti-MQM forces have been given the task to exclusively target MQM workers", Mr Hussain asserted.
"I ask MQM workers, supporters and people of Karachi to remained peaceful and not get provoked".
"If this reign of terror against innocent citizens and MQM workers continues unchecked, it'll be very difficult to keep the masses under control", warned Mr Hussain.
"Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif keeps talking about peace in Karachi. I ask him when he will take notice of the killings of innocent people of Karachi at the hands of terrorists?", said Mr Hussain.
Mr Altaf Hussain demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Ch. Nisar to take notice of the killing of MQM workers and supporters seriously and urgently. He also expressed his condolences to the aggrieved families and said that he along with all his party members and supporters, express deepest condolences and assure that we stand shoulder to shoulder with you in this critical hour.
