The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has said that he had been informing the nation about the baton-wielding sharia of the Taliban but regretted that a particular segment of the society, commonly called as the elite, not only ridiculed him but termed his warnings as an attempt to spread fear among the people.

Mr Hussain said that our mothers and sisters are women of strong character and they follow the tenets of Islam as far as possible. They live their life according to sharia and they would rather die than let their character embellished by anything bad.

Mr Hussain said that the Taliban were openly saying that women who did not follow their strict interpretation of the sharia and did not stop wearing jeans and sportswear and who did not start casting the veil would be dealt with sternly and every street and corner would give the appearance of streets in Sawat during Taliban occupation.

Mr Hussain appealed to the government to take serious notice of the threats being issued by the Taliban and their baton-wielding sharia. He also appealed to the people to form committees consisting of people having liberal and moderate views irrespective of their caste, colour and creed. He urged the people to protect their neighbourhoods by forming vigilance committees.
