Late Aftab Ud Din Baqai will remain immortal in the history of the MQM’s struggle: Altaf Hussain #AftabBaqaiRIP Aftab Ud Dinin Baqai had spent his forty years with the MQM. His association was infallible. He was among the sincerest, loyal, and steadfast companions of the MQM. He spent 36 years in Saudi Arabia and continued his struggle for the rights of the Muhajirs through the platform of “Mohibban-e Pakistan.” After his retirement, he returned to Pakistan in 2021 and played an active and key role in organizational activities. After August 22, 2016, when a new Coordination Committee was formed, its Deputy Convener, Prof. Dr Hassan Zafar Arif, along with other members of the committee, was arrested and subjected to brutal mental and ohysical torture. When Prof. Dr Hassan Zafar Arif was martyred, to fill his void and to continue the organizational affairs, MQM’s Advisory Council was formed, and Aftab Ud Din Baqai was appointed as its in-charge. Setting aside all the premonitions and the consequences, he, along with a few companions, stepped into the field, continuing the organizational struggle from street to street and neighborhood to neighborhood. He faced repeated raids and arrests, sometimes himself and sometimes his son being imprisoned. Even after imprisonment, upon release, he continued to serve the Movement with renewed dedication. During this time, he developed a heart ailment and was under hospital treatment, while also caring for his ailing wife who was undergoing dialysis. Despite both their illnesses, Aftab Ud Din Baqai did not abandon the organizational struggle and remained in constant contact with Movement workers. A couple of days ago, he was taken to the hospital due to chest pain, where he suffered a heart attack and could not survive, returning to his Creator. It is very difficult to forget the conversations and moments spent with the late Aftab Baqai. He will forever live in our memories, and his name will always remain immortal in the history of the MQM’s struggle. May Allah Almighty elevate the ranks of Aftab Ud Din Baqai, grant him the highest place in Paradise, and bless his bereaved family with patience and fortitude. (Amen!). Altaf Hussain.
