Women are integral part of society and deserve the due respect & there must be an end to medieval brutal traditions of violence against women: Altaf Hussain

 Founder and leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) while addressing to the members of coordination committee on account of International day for elimination of violence against women, has said that women are an integral part of the society and deserve to be given the due respect, sovereignty and protection to establish sovereign and developed society.
He said that MQM has been advocating against the violence on women from day one and has the distinction of tabling “women protection” bill in national assembly and getting it passed. This is the need of an hour that “women protection” bill should be abided by in letter and spirit and those who violate should be dealt with firmly. The way our society normally treats women is deplorable and condemnable and we still have the ruthless traditions of Vani (Marrying women with different objects like trees and holy books to protect division of property) and Karokari (Honor killing) where women are brutally oppressed and killed. Throwing acid and beating women violently and killing them are the kind of incidents that we hear every now and then this uncivilized behavior reflects medieval ages’ mentality where women were just considered objects.
He further said that Islam has given clear instructions to respect and protect women and we can only put ourselves on progressive track and established an Islamic society, if we stop violence against women. He said that women are working with men on all fronts in MQM and advocating equal rights for women from MQM’s platform. On this occasion the coordination committee of MQM also called on the government to take concrete measures to protect women rights in Pakistan.
