MQM SUPREMO GRIEVED OVER LOSS OF LIVES IN HAZARA EXPRESS ACCIDENT

LONDON. August 6:
The Muttahidda Qaumi Movement's (MQM) founder and leader Mr Altaf Hussain, has deeply expressed grief and sorrow over the deaths and injuries of scores of passengers in the Hazara Express incident.
In a statement, he said that according to media reports, ten coaches of the Hazara Express had derailed, resulting in multiple fatalities and the number of those who sustained serious injuries are above 50.
Sadly, the rescuers were unavailable at the spot and this tragic absence multiplied the losses. The train passengers with the assistance of local residents carried rescue operations on their own and somehow managed to shift the dead bodies and seriously injured passengers to a nearby medical facility.
Mr Hussain lamented and said that Pakistan is a nuclear state. However, it is extremely unfortunate that the country does not have effective arrangements to combat natural disasters, terrorism or accidents and rescue individuals at risk.
The lack of rescue services lead to loss of precious lives.
He said that after the catastrophic earthquake of 2005, he has repeatedly emphasised that the Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) must be transformed into a dynamic and life-saving body. Nevertheless, nothing was done.
He was of the view that any negligence on the part of PDMA officials or negligence in protecting the lives, assets and property of the citizens should be placed under top priority.
Unfortunately, in the decayed feudal system of Pakistan, the poor are easily subjected to accountability even for trifle issues. However, officials and the elite are treated separately and beyond accountability, the MQM supremo deplored.
He said that if his proposals were acted upon and the PDMA  was transformed into a dynamic body, countless precious lives would not have been lost in natural calamities, terrorism and accidents in Pakistan after 2005.
It looks as if the PDMA has been transformed into the Pakistan Destruction Management Authority, instead, he said, adding that the consequences are that the citizens continue to face untoward situations.
Mr Hussain expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grief-stricken relatives of the deceased in the accident. He prayed for early recovery of the injured.
