BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS GROSSLY VIOLATED, SUPPRESSED BY THE STATE OF PAKISTAN: CANADIAN MP TOM KMIEC

- Writes to the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Ms. Melanie Joly -

CALGARY. CANADA. 22, June:
The Canadian Parliament member Tom Kmiec has said that human rights violations in Pakistan have been going unchecked at the hands of the state institutions especially the country's armed forces and its peripheral powerful secret services. The atrocities, injustices, discrimination and gross human rights violations must end now.
In addition, an impartial investigation into the unlawful arrest, custodial torture and then custodial murder of Prof. Dr Hasan Zafar Arif should be made public. The slain Professor was the senior academician and Professor of history and was affiliated with the MQM in the capacity of the Deputy Convener.
He expressed his grave concern on unchecked and barbaric discrimination, injustices, abduction and custodial murders of the civilians in Pakistan.
The government of Pakistan is refusing to respect and protect the basic human rights to its citizens which is horrific.
This is laid in a recent letter he wrote to his country's Foreign Affairs Minister, Ms. Melanie Joly.
It read further that Pakistan military and military's premier secret service, the Inter-Services Intelligence or ISI are massacring, torturing and abusing their own citizens, while the judiciary has utterly failed to remedy the wounds of the citizens.
Referring to the MQM, Kmiec said that the members of an opposition party, the MQM, assemble on December 9 every year and try to produce a peaceful procession to pay homage to their martyrs. Nonetheless, the country's military and its paramilitary Rangers hamper that peaceful procession and misuse their power.
The precision participants are subjected to vehement physical torture while the scenecent, young people and children are treated the same way by the law enforcers.
Unlawful arbitrary arrests are a sad tale of it. Use of tear gas on a huge scale is a tool they start with. These inhuman atrocities are completely against the UN charter.
He wrote that in continuation of this attitude, a highly educated Muhajir leader and professor of Karachi University, Hasan Zafar Arif was arrested without any lawful charge by the Paramilitary Rangers and was brutally tortured to death in custody.
He says that the extrajudicial killings of political opponents are very common in Pakistan. Thousands of activists of opposition political parties are arrested without lawful charges and murdered in custody by the abductors, the law enforcement agencies, especially the paramilitary Rangers, military and ISI. Thousands have gone missing and many are languishing in prisons. They are denied their rights for fair trials.
In his letter, Kmiec appealed to the Foreign Affairs Minister Ms. Melanie Joly to demand the government of Pakistan to immediately stop human rights violations in Pakistan and conduct an impartial investigation into the custodial murder of Prof. Dr Hasan Zafar Arif and the report should be made public.
