Telephonic conversation between Altaf Hussain and President Asif Zardari
There has been a telephonic conversation between Mr Altaf Hussain, founder and leader of the MQM, and President Asif Zardari on Tuesday night, in which the situation developing in the country regarding disqualification of Mr Yousuf Raza Gilani after the decision of the Supreme Court was discussed. He said that the government had acted wisely by accepting the decision of the court as it was necessary to avoid confrontation for the continuation of democracy in the country.
Mr Hussain said that the Peoples Party had a long history of sacrifices for the democracy, and the sacrifices rendered by it would not remain unfruitful. He said that the interests of the permanent residents of Sindh were inextricably woven together and it was the need of the hour to foil the conspiracy to create hostilities between the permanent residents of Sindh.
Mr Hussain said that the alliance of the MQM and the PPP was not only in the interest of the province of Sindh, but it augured well for the country as well. Elements trying to bring harm to this alliance were, in fact, working against the interest of the country.
President Zardari thanked Mr Hussain for his continuing support in the situation emerging after the decision of the Supreme Court. He agreed with Mr Hussain on the alliance between the MQM and the PPP and said that the relations between the two parties would stretch into the coming generations as well. A history was being written and the elements hatching conspiracies to create divisions would be defeated.
Mr Hussain also offered condolences on the sad demise of senior PPP leader Ms Fauzia Wahab. He said that it was a great loss for those who believe in democracy and are always willing to offer sacrifices for democracy. He also prayed for the departed soul.
