MQM terms increase in power tariff disappointing

MQM terms increase in power tariff disappointing
 Posted on: 8/20/2013
Condemning the 15 and 56 per cent increase in power tariff for domestic and industrial consumers, respectively, of different cities of the country, Muttahida Quami Movement’s Deputy Convener, Dr Nusrat, said that such a huge raise on behalf of the present government `amounted to an act of committing excess with the people’.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the MQM leader said that although the people, traders, businessmen and industrialists of the country, who had been immensely suffering in the wake of frequent load-shedding have been expecting that the present government would provide them relief and basic facilities, including electricity, were greatly disappointed when the Ministry of Water and Power increased the power tariffs for the domestic and industrial consumers of different cities.
Dr Nusrat said that at a time when the people across the country were already facing financial burden owing to sky-rocketing prices of all essential commodities, the government’s act of pursuing the policy of increasing power tariffs amounted to oppression and suppression of the people.
He demanded of the government to immediately withdraw the `illogical’ increase in power tariffs and provide relief to the people by giving them subsidy in the head electricity charges.
