Delay for Mayor elections supports PPP’s rigging: Dr Farooq Sattar

Senior Deputy Convener of Muttahida Quami Movement Dr Farooq Sattar said that the unnecessary delay in Mayor and Deputy Mayors elections provided PPP a chance to rig the elections.
Talking to the media persons at a press conference, MQM Leader said that the provincial government deliberately delayed the process to deprive the Karachiites. He said that if the LG system had been implemented from 01st January, the basic civic issues would have been addressed yet.
He said that the current municipal government did not deliver the fundamental rights to the people and only was seen on the papers. He said it was a sheer violation of Article-140A and MQM would have right to protest against such conspiracy in front of the office of provincial election commission.
Dr Farooq Sattar said that it was Election Commission’s prime responsibility to immediately announce the elections’ date for reserved seats. He said that neither the provincial government nor the Election Commission seemed bothered to conclude the elections of LG.
He said that PPP government forced and threatened the independent candidates not to support MQM for Mayor and Deputy Mayor Elections. He said that the Provincial Election Commission’s office was timely informed about the current development and MQM’s reservations through a letter which was also provided to the media persons here.
MQM Leader said that the LG funds were being used by the bureaucrats and LG Minister for paying unchecked bills which might create shortage of funds for the elected representatives of people. He also condemned the cleanliness campaign announced by the LG Minister and termed it a political stunt and uselessness of municipal resources.
MQM nominated Mayor Wasim Akhtar said, “We have keen observations on the embezzlement of current municipal government and we will definitely take the issue after taking oath of the office. He demanded the Election Commission, federal and provincial governments to immediately announce the reserved seats elections’ dates.
