Nobody owns Karachi but uses revenue: Altaf Hussain

The founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), Mr. Altaf Hussain said that Karachi was the second biggest city of the world, having 23.5 million population.
Talking to a gathering of Council of Professionals (CoP) from London Secretariat, MQM Chief asserted that Karachi had been paying highest number of tax amount in the country and unfortunately it was controlled by Islamabad or Larkana. He said that most members of Sindh Assembly were elected from rural areas and did not pay any heeds to urban issues.
The programme was organized by Council of Professional (CoP) at Mahfooz Yar Khan’s residence, In-charge MQM Legal-Aid Committee, and hugely participated by the top notch professionals of the scenario. Mr. Hussain during his lecture exposed the ultimate side effects of the discrimination with the urban population of the province by the rural authorities and elites.
He said that such discrimination had been imposed since ZA Bhutto’s government in the name of quota system crushing the merit. He said that it was on the record that MQM kept struggling against those prejudices and determined to bring justice to the people of the country on equality and merit.
Mr. Hussain mentioned that it was a common practice to create new provinces or administrative units as per need to enhance governance. He said that new administrative units might maximize chances to provide better facilities to the masses by utilizing social potentials on its merit.
He said that Karachi had been generating 67 percent of the total revenue of the country but never refuted in terms of its civil developments. He mentioned that Karachiites were also deprived of their fundamental rights to maintain local government and facilitate themselves.
Referring to the scenario, MQM Chief emphasized that the local government elections should be held regularly and transformation of the authorities should be given to the grass-root level. He said that unauthorized colonies, especially in slum areas, created haphazardness in the distributions of the resources.
He also referred that those illegal colonies a nursery to nurturing the religious fundamentalism and extremism in the society. He said that the entire social setup needed to focus on the youth of the country and they should be engaged in creative activities to explore their potential like MQM kept trusting them and giving them opportunities to come up on the bigger stage of life.
Mr. Hussain said that it was MQM which introduced the youth leadership from APMSO in the mainstream, especially Dr Farooq Sattar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and others. He said that he kept alarming the nation about the religious fanaticism and growth of religious fantasy in the country.
