MQM Co-ordination Committee has strongly condemned the arrests of 21 workers, including the member of Central Executive Council Noor Hussain, from different parts of the city. Terming the arrests as uncalled-for and illegal, the Co-ordination Committee said the arrests of MQM workers one day before Eid is a clear proof that KKF is being stopped from carrying out its welfare activities.
The Co-ordination Committee said Rangers, CID and plainclothes personnel arrested CEC member Noor Hussain, unit committee member of Unit 105, Shah Faisal Sector, Wajih Ahmed, and other workers from their homes. The arrested workers were shifted to unknown locations.
The Co-ordination Committee deplored that on the one hand the MQM was being targeted on the pretext of the Karachi Operation while, on the other hand, MQM workers were being arrested to stop them from collecting hides for KKF.
The Co-ordination Committee said MQM is actively following the Code of Conduct for the collection of hides, but the party workers and sympathizers were being arrested to spread a wave of harassment.
The Co-ordination Committee said law-enforcement agencies were picking children and intimidating them to disclose as to which MQM workers were collecting hides. The workers were being arrested on the pointing of these children.
The Co-ordination Committee said MQM was a peaceful political party. Instead of accepting its mandate, its political and democratic rights were being abridged on the pretext of targeted operation against terrorists and criminals.
The Co-ordination Committee appeals to PM Nawaz Sharif, COAS Gen Raheel Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, CM Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Corps Commander Karachi Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, and DG Rangers Sindh Maj Gen Bilal Akbar to take notice of the arrests of MQM workers before Eid.
The Committee called for stopping the illegal arrests and said that all arrested workers should be released.
