Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Parliamentary Party Leader in National Assembly, Dr Mohammad Farooq Sattar said here on Friday that his party would play its role as a bridge between the People’s Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to help improve relations between both the parties.
MQM wanted to have better relations with the People’s Party for the progress of Sindh and better ties with PML-N for the progress of the country, he added.
He was speaking to representatives of both the print and electronic media at an Iftar-dinner hosted by the MQM in honour of the elite of the city at Jinnah ground, Azizabad.
The MQM leader said that the MQM while remaining in opposition would continue to play its role for bringing an end to terrorism, for peace and tranquility as well as for the economic prosperity of the country, besides resolving issues being faced by the masses.
Highlighting the importance of the local bodies institutions, Dr Sattar said that since the people’s problems at their grass-root level were resolved under local bodies system, the MQM wanted a strong and empowered local bodies system whereby development of both the rural and urban areas could be made possible.
On this occasion, he said that the MQM in collaboration with the local bodies institutions of Sindh would initiate a cleanliness drive across the province.
Referring to financial crisis being faced by the local bodies institutions, he said that on the one hand, employees of the institutions were not getting salary and, on the other hand, funds were not being provided to the institutions for solving people’s problems.
The issue concerning release of the local bodies institutions’ funds had been discussed with the Sindh government and Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, he said, adding that if the problems of the local bodies institutions were not resolved, the MQM would stage sit-in and peaceful protest demonstrations.
Replying to a question, Dr Sattar said that joining Sindh government or the federal government was not an important issue for the MQM because its main concern was the country’s progress and solution of people’s issues.
Reiteration that the MQM would fully participate in the local bodies elections, he demanded of the government to enforce the Sindh Local Government Act-2012 with some amendments and conduct the local bodies polls under the same system.
He said that as no single party could help resolve the country’s problems, the MQM wanted to fully cooperate with all political forces for the progress and prosperity of the country.
