MQM questions neutrality of targeted operation in Karachi

KARACHI: The law enforcement agencies are carrying on continuous arbitrary arrests of innocent workers of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and in continuation to this exercise of arbitrary arrests, paramilitary Rangers and police during unlawful multiple raids since late Thursday night arrested MQM literature Committee in-charge and 8 other workers of the MQM including 2 real brothers.
According to a statement issued here yesterday, paramilitary Rangers arrested MQM Literature Committee in-charge Sohail Ahmed when he was coming out from Gufran Mosque in F.B Area Block 16 after attending Friday congregation. Paramilitary Rangers also unlawfully raided the houses of MQM workers in Pak Colony and arrested MQM workers of Unit 186 Muhammad Shahid son of Muhammad Munawwar, Muhammad Imran son of Mir Hassan, Afzal Bhatti son of Maher Ali, Riaz Kaleem son of Muhammad Kaleem Shaheed and Jawwad Kaleem son of Muhammad Kaleem Shaheed, Conversely, police during unlawful raids on houses of MQM workers in Korangi arrested MQM Unit 76 workers Muhammad Ehtisham son of Muhammad Khursheed and Muhammad Jibran son of Muhammad Khursheed.
All the arrested workers have been shifted to an undisclosed location where they are subjected to brutal torture. The MQM Coordination Committee has strongly condemned the arbitrary arrests of innocent workers of MQM, brutal torture during detention.
The MQM Coordination Committee has said that MQM Literature Committee in-charge Sohail Ahmed is innocent and police have no criminal record of him in any criminal activity. Paramilitary Rangers arrested him at a time when he was coming out from a mosque after attending Friday congregation. Other workers were arrested from their homes.
The MQM Coordination Committee said the government and the administration are misleading the people with their false claims that the operation in Karachi is not against any particular party. However, the fact is that the law enforcement agencies are arresting the innocent MQM workers only. Paramilitary Rangers and police have 2 days ago raided the houses of MQM workers in Korangi, Shah Faisal Colony and Mehmoodabad and arrested 9 office-bearers and workers. On Friday, they arrested 8 more innocent workers of the MQM from F.B Area, Korangi and Pak Colony.
The MQM Coordination Committee has asked the government to explain as why only MQM is on target if the operation, as per government’s claim, is not against a particular party and why political, social and welfare activities of the MQM are oppressed under use of state powers.
The MQM Coordination Committee has also asked the government to explain as why basic rights of Mohajirs are oppressed by suppressing their freedom of expression
The MQM Coordination Committee has said that the callous-hearted terrorists attempted to murder MQM leader Abdul Rasheed Godil, targeting the innocent civilians, attacking police and robbing banks but still they are allowed to move freely and the MQM has been targeted instead. Nonetheless, the government is still making false claims that the operation is not against the MQM, which is self-explanatory.
The MQM Coordination Committee has demanded the Prime Minister Mina Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to take immediate notice of unlawful arbitrary arrest of MQM workers and non-production of the arrested workers in courts of law by the law enforcement agencies.
The MQM Coordination Committee has also demanded that the unlawful arbitrary arrest of the MQM workers should be stopped.
