MQM urges an end to atrocities being committed on workers

MQM urges an end to atrocities being committed on workers
 Posted on: 6/29/2013
Condemning the arrests of Muttahida Qaumi Movement workers and raids being conducted at their houses by police and law-enforcement, the MQM Coordination Committee demanded immediate release of its workers and an end to the oppression being committed on them.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Coordination Committee said that it was shocking to note that when dozens of MQM’s innocent workers, office-bearers and sympathizers had been killed in the last one month by terrorists and criminal elements in different parts of the city and MPA Sajid Qureshi and his son were brutally murdered, the law-enforcement agencies, instead of apprehending killers of MQM workers, were carrying out uncalled for and unjust raids to nab the party workers.
The Committee deplored that in case of non-availability of MQM workers at their houses, the law-enforcement agencies had been arresting their relatives and subjecting them to torture in official custody.
Listing the recent arrests made by the police and law-enforcement agencies, the Committee said that two workers of Korangi Unit-69 – Mohammad Naveed and Atique Abbasi were nabbed on June 27, seven workers of the party were apprehended in raids conducted in Lyari, Liaquatabad, Landhi and Lines Area on June 28 and they included Imran and Kamran of Lyari Sector Unit-29, Ghulm Farid and Abdul Hameed of Liaquatabad Sector’s Unit-156, Naseer Ahmed of Lines Area Sector Unit-52, Shoaib Khan of Lndhi Sector Unit-89 and Zeeshan, brother of Kashif belonging to Unit-86.
Besides, other MQM workers arrested by police and law-enforcement agencies between Friday and Saturday night included Ayub Khawar of Liaquatabad Unit-162 and Javaid Munawwar and Rehan of Malir Unit 198.
Condemning the on-going raids being conducted by police and law-enforcement agencies at the residences of MQM workers, the Committee demanded immediate release of the party workers and an end to the atrocities being committed on them.
