MQM voices concern over illegal confinement of 20 workers

MQM voices concern over illegal confinement of 20 workers
 Posted on: 5/25/2013
Voicing serious concern over continued detention of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s office-bearers and workers by Rangers, the party’s ad hoc Coordination Committee on Saturday demanded of the people at the helm of affairs to get all the arrested party office-bearers and workers released from the custody of Rangers.
In a strongly-worded statement issued here on Saturday, the MQM’s ad hoc Coordination Committee said that the Rangers had arrested more than 20 office-bearers and workers of the party during its unlawful raids being carried out continuously at the party’s sector and unit offices and the residences of the party’s office-bearers for the last three days.
Condemning the arrest of the MQM workers during Rangers personnel’s raids conducted at the party’s sector and unit offices, especially those located in Lines Area, Orangi Town, Korangi and Liaquatabad, the ad hoc Coordination Committee deplored that more than 20 party workers and office-bearers who were taken into custody by Rangers had been shifted to some unidentified locations.
The ad hoc Coordination Committee said that the family member of detained party workers were passing through mental agonies as the Rangers personnel were not giving them any satisfactory reply concerning the whereabouts of their near and dear ones.
The Committee regretted that it was strange to note that the Rangers instead of arresting terrorists belonging to Lyari gang war who were openly indulging in acts of terrorism such as killing, kidnapping for ransom, hurling of grenades, were apprehending innocent MQM workers during its unlawful raids at the party’s sector and unit offices.
If those arrested were involved in any crime then proper FIRs should be lodged and they be produced before court of law, instead of detaining them unlawfully for the last three days under some conspiracy, the Committee said, adding that MQM workers and office-bearers would neither be scared with such illegal, unconstitutional and inhuman acts nor they could be kept away from their leader Altaf Hussain.
Earlier, family members of the arrested workers met the MQM ad hoc Coordination Committee’s Deputy Convener, Dr Farooq Sattar and Member Aamir Khan at the Khursheed Begum Secretariat, Azizabad and apprised them about the unlawful confinement of their near and dear ones.
The MQM leaders assured them that the party would adopt all legal and constitutional means for the release of their near and dear ones.
