MQM REJECTS THE DECISION OF REMOVING METERS BY KESC AS ILLOGICAL
 ISLAMABAD: 10TH MAY 2012
Deputy Convener of the Co-ordination Committee Senator Mrs Nasrin Jalil has criticized the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) for deciding to remove additional meters from consumer premises and insisting on only one meter for one consumer. Senator Jalil rejected the policy of removing additional meters from consumer premises as illogical and said that the policy would create innumerable problems for the consumers.
While speaking in the session of the Senate, Mrs Jalil said that the policy of removing meters would create problems among the families and the consumption of electricity would be disputed. She regretted that the KESC was creating problems for the citizens of Karachi despite the fact that they paid their bills regularly and were paying the highest charges for electricity.
Senator Jalil said that Karachi was a densely populated city and more than one family was living in a house. Portions of the house have also been rented and hence removing the meters would create immense problems.
Senator Jalil said that the removing of the additional meters was unjust and called-for and it was highly condemnable. She said that inflated bills were being sent to the consumers who were forced to go without electricity for over 10 to 12 hours. Long power outages had hit the industrial and commercial activities in the city. Students were also facing considerable problems in preparation for their examinations.
Senator Jalil said that notice should be taken of the KESC decision as it would compound the problems being faced by the people.
