Conversation with former interior minister Rehman Malik
The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has called on the Caretaker government and the Election Commission of Pakistan to ensure the holding of free, fair and transparent elections in the country. He said this while talking to the PPP leader and former interior minister Rehman Malik on the telephone. Condemning the kidnapping of the son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani and killing and injuring of several people, Mr Hussain said it appeared that religious extremists and captured the country and there was no one to stop them. He termed the kidnapping of Ali Haider Gillani and killing and injuring of several persons by armed terrorists in Multan as highly unfortunate.
Mr Malik said that certain forces were using terrorism and violence to create an environment so that liberal and democratic parties might be forced to boycott elections. He also condemned the kidnapping of Ali Haider Gillani and the killing of the PPP workers. He thanked Mr Hussain for condemning the incident.
