Founder and Leader Altaf Hussain's offer to PTI to hold its rally at Jinnah Ground Azizabad
Posted on: 4/1/2015 1
Mr Altaf Hussain, founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement, in his statement, said that he was extremely sad on the tragic incident took place between the residents of the constituency of NA 246 and the leaders and workers of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI). He further added that he did not want to blame anyone for this incident as his intention is noble and he wanted a free and fair elections to be held in peace.
Mr Altaf Hussain said that in democracy, verbal confrontation, criticism and support between two national parties are common but both or more parties should not covert this into animosity and should not create such an environment that it appears as if two opposing powers are fighting or people of two countries are at war. He questioned, do Tehrik-e-Pakistan or entire Pakistan not know that a grand historical monument is placed at Jinnah Ground to commemorate twenty thousand martyrs where thousands of people visit to pay respect and offer prayers for their salvation. He added that if the leaders of Tehrik-e-Insaf hold their rally elsewhere then MQM would cooperate with PTI in providing whatever assistance and cooperation they would need but if they insist on holding their rally in Jinnah Ground then MQM should be given time to make proper arrangement for protection of the monument and would request PTI to ensure its sanctity.
Mr Altaf Hussain firmly instructed officials and workers of the MQM to demonstrate the patience and restraints they exercised yesterday and refrain from confrontation at all cost. He asked the MQM officials and workers understand that they are the host and the Tehrik-e-Insaf are coming to contest election in their traditional constituency as a guest and therefore, they need to control their emotions and manifest exemplary patience and tolerance.
Mr Altaf Hussain requested Governor of Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan and Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah to hold an emergency meeting of both parties and formulate a code of conduct for the bye-election and constitute a committee comprising three empowered members of the Election Commission that would report any violation of the code of conduct to the Election Commissioner and forward copies to the Governor and Chief Minister of Sindh.
Mr Hussain appealed to both parties to participate in election like civilised nations and restrain from all kinds of provocations and confrontation.
