How can free and fair elections be held in the presence of extremism and terrorism?: MQM
 Posted on: 4/13/2013
Law-enforcing agencies are conducting raids on MQM offices in peaceful areas instead of taking action against terrorists
The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has expressed grave concerns on the rising activities of militants in Karachi. It has urged on the Election Commission of Pakistan and the caretaker government to take action against terrorist elements and eliminate their hide-outs.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the news of activities of banned outfits and criminals were being reported in both the national and international media on a regular basis. It was highly regrettable that the law-enforcing agencies were conducting raids on MQM offices and arresting workers by conducting siege and search operation in peaceful areas of Karachi instead of taking action against terrorists.
The Co-ordination Committee said the terrorists arrested by the CID police from Manghopir area had divulged that they were planning to attack the MQM’s headquarters in FB Area and the US consulate in Sultanabad area.
The MQM election candidate Fakhrul Islam was also gunned down in Hyderabad, which had forced people to believe that the government and administration had left them to the mercy of terrorists.
The Co-ordination Committee asked if free and fair elections could be held in the presence of unending terrorism and extremism. If the incidents of terrorism were constantly ignored, the claims of holding transparent elections would be empty and equal to cheating the oppressed and downtrodden people.
The Co-ordination Committee demanded President Asif Zardari, caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso and caretaker Interior Minister Malik Habib to ensure stability and holding of free and fair elections in the country. It called for taking stern action against banned outfits involved in incidents of terrorism for producing an environment conducive for holding elections.
