Lack of action against criminals indicates undisguised government support
Karachi: 1st March 2013
The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned the increasing incidents of grenade attacks on shops, hotels, petrol pumps and other business centres in Karachi on the refusal of the business community to pay extortion money to the terrorists of the gang war. It said that everyone in Karachi knew full well that criminal elements and terrorists of the Lyari gang war were openly distributing extortion slips to the businessmen, industrialists and other well-off people.
The Co-ordination Committee said it was highly deplorable that while these terrorists were operating with impunity in the city, the government was doing nothing and the citizens of Karachi were left at their mercy. It said that the inaction against these criminal elements had emboldened them, and they were increasing their footprints in different areas of Karachi.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the activities of these criminal elements would not stop as long as they continued to enjoy the support from the government. It urged on the law-enforcing agencies to take action against the criminal elements for saving the economy of Karachi from the total collapse. It also called for giving protection to the business community and the citizens by and large.
