MQM Co-ordination Committee condemns the repealing of the Sindh Peoples Local Government Act 2012

MQM Co-ordination Committee condemns the repealing of the Sindh Peoples Local Government Act 2012
 Posted on: 2/21/2013
The old local bodies system of 1979 is in violation of the article 140 – A of the Constitution
The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has strongly condemned the repealing of the Sindh Peoples Local Government Act 2012 and reverting to the old local bodies system of 1979. A joint meeting of the committee was held in London and Pakistan simultaneously to deliberate on the situation arising after the passage of the Bill for this purpose in the Sindh Assembly by the PPP.
The meeting said that the Sindh Peoples Local Government Act was passed after lengthy discussions and consultations between the MQM and the PPP. The PPP leaders had themselves declared the Act to be in the best interests of the Sindh province but no sooner had the MQM decided to sit in the opposition than the PPP repealed its own Act and reverted to the old system of 1979.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the MQM had been working strenuously for years to forge unity and brotherhood between the permanent residents of Sindh, but the PPP had once again tried to draw a wedge between the Sindhis and Mohajirs by repealing the local government act. The action of the PPP would create hatred among the people, and hence it was tantamount to enmity with Sindh.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the MQM would start a legal and constitutional struggle against the dissolution of the local government system, and it would make every democratic effort to devolve the power at the lowest level.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the PPP had violated the constitution as the local bodies system of 1979 brought by General Ziaul Haque was in contravention of article 140 – A of the constitution. The PPP leaders used to call the local government system of 1979 as a black law and hence they have given a clear message to the people by restoring this black law that they wanted to continue the steps taken in the times of dictatorship in the country.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the local government system is the nursery of the democracy, and it is also a part of the manifesto of the PPP which was made by late Benazir Bhutto. The present leadership of the PPP has not only trampled the nursery of the democracy but also deviated from the manifesto that was made by their leader.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the PPP had deprived the poor people of Sindh of their right to govern at the lowest level. Their step has strengthened the obsolete feudal system, and the poor people of Sindh would be at the mercy of the feudal lords.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the MQM had faced such dictatorial actions of tyrant rulers in the past, and it was ready to face every kind of coercion and oppression even today. Our courage and determination cannot be diminished by such oppressive steps, and we will continue our struggle to bring an end to these undemocratic and unconstitutional steps.
The Co-ordination Committee asked the people not to get disappointed and maintain unity.
