THIRD DAY OF EID-UL-AZHA

-- At around 04.25 p.m. PST, heavy contingent of Police and plain cloths personnel cordoned off the Main Offices of KKF in Federal B. Area, Karachi, and Nine Zero in Azizabad Karachi. Every person bringing hides for KKF and Nine Zero is being stopped and harassed by the police.

To intimidate and harass MQM public representatives the Azizabad police of District Centeral Karachi have registered a case against Sen. Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, Sen. Nasreen Jalil, Dr Farooq Sattar MPA, and Abdul Qadir Lakhani MPA.
This action of the government is part of the state terrorism which is being carried out against the Muhajir Nation for over seven years.

Police continued to illegal cordon off MQM head quarters and offices of KKF for the successive third day. No one is being allowed in the offices or the blood bank. Patients with serious illnesses are suffering because of non-availability of blood and all political activities of the MQM have been put to a halt because of illegal cordoning of its offices and harassment by the police.

Yesterday evening, after two days, Dr.Farooq Sattar, Parliamentary leader was able to contact Commissioner Karachi who assured him that police will be withdrawn however this assurance of the Commissioner has proved to be wrong and the government is continuing with its policy of suppression of the Mohajir Nation.

Hyderabad 31, March 1999

Last night at around 12 a.m. PST, a large number of police officials raided the three godowns of Hide contractors Mr.Abdul Hamid, Haji Rasheed and Mr.Mohammad Iqbal and arrested them. Haq Parast MPA Mr. Afzal Shah tried to contact Commissioner, Dy Commissioner, D.I.G and S.P of Hyderabad but all his efforts failed.

In protest against the arrest of their fellow contractors all other contractors of hide in Hyderabad took to strike and refused to buy hides from anyone. Later at about 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, over a dozen vehicles of police again raided the godown of hide contractors who were acting for the MQM and started loading the hides lying in godown in their vehicles.

Due to this act of BLATENT HIGHWAY ROBBERY by the police there is strong resentment amongst the people in the city of Hyderabad.

SECOND DAY OF EID-UL-AZHA

AT around 07:30p.m. PST, we have just recieved information that the Nazimabad Police caused damage to "TANVEER SHAHEED PARK" built in the memory of Tanveer's martordom, situated in Chandni Choak Nazimabad Karachi, in the early hours of this morning. The Nazimabad Police also confiscated dozens of hides from the elderly workers of the MQM.Tanveer Ahsan was the member of MQM information cell and was extra-judicially executed by law enforcement in Feburary 1994.

AT around 05:30 p.m. PST, Mr.Zahid Quraishi, MPA (Member of Provincial Assembly Sindh) was arrested by Liaquatabad Police along with his driver Mr. Aurangzaib and Mr. Wali an elderly worker of the MQM. Mr. Zahid Quraishi had gone to his constituancy Liaquatabad to greet his constituants on the occasion of Eid ul Azha.
Quid-e-Tehrik Mr.Altaf Hussain has strongly condemened the unlawful arrest of Mr.Zahid Quraishi and has said that by arresting elected representatives, the Government is crossing all limits of repression of the Muhajir Nation.

AT around 05:20 p.m. PST,Gulbahar Police arrested Mukhtar Ahmed, elderly worker of the MQM and another person. Police confiscated hundreds of hides they were carrying.

AT 01:20 p.m. PST, Ghazanfar Kazmi SHO, Azizabad Police Station along with a large number of security personnels in plain clothes armed with Kalashnikovs and other automatic weapons came to the MQM head office Nine Zero

At around 12:30 p.m. PST, Mr Tariq Jawaid MNA was stopped by the police, abused and threantened for working for MQM.

March 30

AT around 05:20 p.m. PST,elderly worker of MQM Mr.Mukhtar Ahmed and another person was arrested by the Gulbahar Police. The Police confiscated hundreds of hides they were carrying. Mr.Mukhtar Ahmed was handcuffed and manhandled by the Police. He is still in detention.

AT 01:20 p.m. PST, Ghazanfar Kazmi SHO, Azizabad Police Station along with a large number of security personnels in plain clothes armed with Kalashnikovs and other automatic weapons came to the MQM head office Nine Zero parked his vehicls White highroof CJ 6048, Green highroof CG 7841, Yellow cab PIJ 1866 and a CIA mobile GS 3783. He chased the MQM workers who were sitting outside the Nine Zero. Abused and harrased women and elderly persons and ordered them to stop working for the MQM, he said that if they would not does ordered than they would be arrested and then rot in jail.

At around 12:30 p.m. PST, Mr Tariq Jawaid MNA was stopped by the police, abused and threantened for working for MQM.

Two MQM workers were arrested without any charges against them. Police has intensified its illegal action of snatching hides from people who bring it to MQM Head Office Nine Zero and KKF (Khidmat-e-Khalq), a charity which runs ambulance service, blood bank and coufin carrier services for the welfare of people.

-- At around 12.00 p.m. PST, on 2nd Day of Eid, Police threatened, harassed and stopped residents of several area of District Centeral, District East, and other districts in Karachi, from donating hides to KKF.

-- At around 11.05 a.m. PST, heavy contingent of Police cordoned off the Main Offices of KKF in Federal B. Area, Karachi, and Nine Zero (MQM Head Office) in Azizabad Karachi. Every person bringing hides for KKF and Nine Zero (MQM Head Office) is being stopped and harassed by the police.

At around 01:00 a.m. PST, Police have cordon off the Head Office of MQM Nine Zero in Azizabad, Karachi. the purpose to cordoned of the area is to harassed people.

March 29
-- At around 9.15 p.m. PST, according to eye-witness accounts, the Police at Azizabad Police Station, under the supervision of SHO Ghazanfar Kazmi, are selling the hides looted, today at 1.40 p.m. from Nine Zero, to the traders. These hides were being shifted on a Suzuki van (Regn. PG1712).

At around 08.30 p.m. PST, Police have cordoned off the Main Office of MQM Nine Zero in Azizabad, Karachi. Every person bringing hides for KKF is being stopped and harassed.

-- At around 3.15 p.m. PST, Farooq Ameen Qureshi, DIG Karachi Police, have threatened Ms. Nasreen Jalil (Deputy Convenor of the Central Co-ordination Committee of the MQM) Over the telephone that the Police will apprehend the female workers of MQM who are collecting hides for KKF.

-- At around 3.10 p.m. PST, Police have started indiscriminate firing at Bhayani Heights, Abu Isphahani Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, to stop the MQM workers from collecting hides for KKF.

-- At around 3 p.m. PST, SHO Ghazanfar Kazmi have unlawfully confiscated a van in Golimar, Karachi, filled with hides donated for KKF. They have also arrested the driver of the van.

-- At around 1.40 p.m., for the second time, heavy contingent of Police, led by notorious SHO Ghazanfar Kazmi of Azizabad Police Station raided Nine Zero (MQM Head Office). The raiding party harassed and abused the supporters standing in front of the Office.

-- At around 12.30 p.m. PST, heavy contingent of Police, led by SHO Ghazanfar Kazmi raided the MQM Head Office (Nine Zero). They forcefully entered into the Nine Zero by breaking the back door. During the raid, the Police misbehaved with the office bearers and women workers present at Nine Zero. The ruthless raiding party didnot even spare the elders present at Nine Zero. Four MQM workers, including two members of MQM Elders Committee have been arrested, tortured on the spot and taken away.
Those who have been arrested include :
1-- Eidu Bhai (65 years). He is a Member of MQM Elders Wing of Qasba Aligarh, Karachi.
2-- Mali Baba (70 years). He is a Member of MQM Elders Wing of Korangi, Karachi.
3-- Ameer Uddin (38 years). He is a worker of MQM Liaquatabad Sector.
4-- Details awaited.
The raiding party have also unlawfully confiscated huge quantity of hides and skins of sacrificial animals present at Nine Zero. These hides and skins were donated by the supporters of MQM to KKF.

-- The same Police party also raided the home of Ms. Waqar, an office bearer of MQM in Azizabad, Federal B. Area, Karachi. They misbehaved with the family and have threatened them not to collect hides and skins for KKF. During the raid they also arrested two MQM workers.

-- At around 11.30 a.m. PST, on Eid Day, Police threatened and harassed several area residents at American Quarters and Latifabad in Hyderabad, not to donate hides to KKF.
-- At around 10.30 a.m. PST, Police SHO Ghazanfar Kazmi and SHO Azam Hayat harassed public not to donate hides to KKF. They have been travelling in Police mobiles and have turned their emergency sirens on to create an impression of emergency conditions.
-- In its campaign to snatch the hides, Police has not even spared the mosques. Announcements are being made by the Police from the mosques that people should not donate the hides to KKF.
-- At around 10.20 a.m. PST, Police have cordoned off the Main Office of KKF in Federal B. Area, Karachi. Every person bringing hides for KKF is being stopped and harassed. No vehicle is allowed to enter into KKF Main Office.
-- At around 9.40 a.m., PST, Karachi Police, led by ASI Yousuf Tanoli, are snatched hides in Lyari Units 31, 32 AND 33.
-- At around 9.40 a.m., PST, SHO Haider Baig of PIB Police Station harassed people on Eid Day.
-- At around 9.00 a.m. PST, Police and Law Enforcement Agencies have carried out raids throughout the night at homes of MQM workers and supporters in New Karachi.

March 28

-- Today at around 11 p.m. PST, heavy contingent of Police led by DSP City Mohammad Chand, along with SHO City and SHO Fort, raided the Offices of Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation near Railway Station (Meer Garden) in Hyderabad. They confiscated five ambulances (Toyota, EA-0596, EA-0509, EA-0531 and EA-0598) and arrested eight social workers of KKF namely:
1-- Ehsan 35 son of Saleh Mohammad,
2-- Mohammad Musa 35 son of Mohammad Prel,
3-- Mohammad Khalid 32 son of Hashmat Ali Siddiqui,
4-- Abdul Latif 30 son of Mohammad Yaseen Siddiqui,
5-- Mohammad Arif 28 son of Abdul Raheem. and others
They were immediately subjected to brutal torture.

-- It is strongly apprehended that the Police and Administration is planning to raid and seal the Main Office of KKF at Federal B. Area, in Karachi.

-- Throughout the day, heavy contingent of Police cordoned off the Main Office of Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation and harassed the voluntary social workers present there.

-- The DIG of Karachi Police, Farooq Ameen Qureshi and other Police Officers have contacted all the buyers of hides and skins that Karachi Police will also be selling them hides and skins. It indicates proof that Police had planned to snatch hides and skins from various camps of KKF in Karachi. Furthermore, the buyers have also been threatened by Police, not to buy any hide or skin from KKF.

-- At around 6 p.m., Police raided a house in PIB Colony and arrested two MQM workers on the pretext that they were appealing for the donation of hides and skins.

March 27

The Administration has imposed a ban on on Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) on the collection of hides and skins of the sacrificial animals in Sindh province, southern Pakistan. In his letter Ref. of DCE/(JB)/1598/99 of March 27, 99, the Deputy Commissioner Karachi East has refused permission to the registered charity for collection of hides and skins.

Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) is a charitable organisation that depends on charity to assist the impoverished and the needy. Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated by the Muslims, all over the world. Muslim, during Eid-ul-Azha, sacrifice animals to pay tribute to prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) who was asked to sacrifce his son. The people of Karachi, Hyderabad and other urban centres of Sindh, Mohajirs in particular, donate the hide and skin to the KKF every year to help it continue its contribution to the public at large irrespective of their caste, creed, ethnicity, sects, gender or the religion In continuation of the persistent and systematic persecution policy against the Mohajir Nation and the MQM, Nawaz Sharif Government is taking these punitive measures with impunity against the KKF.
