UNLAWFUL RAIDS, ARRESTS AND TORTURE OF THE MQM MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENTS, WORKERS AND SUPPORTERS BY THE NAWAZ SHARIF GOVERNMENT AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES

On 13 August 1999, Kanwar Khalid Younus, Member of the National Assembly was forcibly stopped by the police while he was on his way to the Central Office of the MQM, known as "90". He was stopped by the police, guns were aimed towards his face, harassed and threatened of dire consequences if he takes part in 'Save Sindh, Save Pakistan Rally' on 14th August. They also alleged that his car was used in a robbery.

At around 2:00 a.m., the personnel of Nazimabad Police Station, led by SHO (Station House Officer) raided the house of Ehsan Ullah Khan, Member of Sindh Assembly. The raiding party misbehaved and threatened him of dire consequences, if he takes part in 'Save Sindh, Save Pakistan Rally' of the MQM which is to take place on 14th August.

At around 3:30 a.m., (PST) the personnel of Liaquatabad Police Station along with a large number of security personnel in plain clothes armed with automatic weapons raided the residence of Mrs. Akhtar Khanam Ghouri at House No. 337, Block No. 7, Liaquatabad, Karachi. She is a worker of MQM Ladies Wing. The raiding party looted the valuables and arrested her two sons Ghyaz Uddin Ghouri 28, and Munnawar Ghouri 27 Both were taken to unknown place.

Mass arrest of MQM workers and supporters have started in the urban centres of Sindh to stop the MQM from observing the protest rally on 14 August 1999, as announced by the MQM Co-ordination Committee
