If you have room for correction then you have room for progress and the success is guaranteed
Human nature desires continuous progress or success in his chosen field or achievement of his objectives
A study circle of Quaid-e-Tehrik Altaf Hussain at the International Secretariat in London on 3 November 1999

Addressing a Study Circle at the International Secretariat in London, founder and leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain stated that only those persons are successful in life who possess the strength to correct themselves from within. "The ascendancy to peak or success is guaranteed to those who possess the capacity of correcting themselves from within", he said.

During his address, he said that the re-action of human nature is similar everywhere. For instance, he said, that human nature desires continuous progress or success in his chosen field or achievement of his object. He further said that for example if any one falls in love, he desires further intensity in it – likewise, if one has embarked on gaining wealth and power, he desires more of it --- similarly, those engaged in gaining education and knowledge, they also desire for more --- and those who are involved in misappropriation and corruption, they desire no bound --- if someone is waging struggle or a Movement, he desires all frontiers to transcend, he said.

Mr Altaf Hussain further elaborating with examples, said that those who choose the path of piety, they get satisfied by providing happiness and pleasure to people and desire to surpass all limits by providing more and more. Similarly, those who choose the path of evil, they get satisfaction by causing pain, sufferings and harm to others. These people are "sadist" by their nature. "There is similarity in the re-action of human nature everywhere and therefore, it is up to the human beings to either choose the path of piety or evil", he said. He said that it is up to the individual whether he chooses friendship, wealth, education, power, love or the struggle and those who opt for the Movement, the progress of the Movement and attainment of its goal becomes their prime objective. He further stated that those who opt for a Movement or ideology, that Movement or ideology become their wealth, love, power and friend. "Many people do not have any idea of their wealth yet they continue their endeavour for its increment", he opined.

Mr Altaf Hussain stated that he has devoted himself to the common cause and mission and his mission is his personal wealth, love and strength. My mission is the accomplishment of the rights of Mohajirs and down-trodden people of the country and I do not desire anything in return. He further said, "I have never expressed any desire or wish for wealth, power or position in return". He said that the day Mohajirs and the downtrodden people of Pakistan have attained their rights, he would bid farewell making way for others to run their affairs themselves and engage himself in reading and writing as well as the promotion of education and knowledge that is what would satisfy him.

Mr Altaf Hussain said that to change the genetic habit of a person is extremely difficult but not impossible. He further said that the genes of certain people could be changed through sustained teachings and preaching. However, the change in certain people cannot be brought through teachings and preaching because their mind is not prepared to absorb the positive things, he stated. "It is now being proved on scientific basis and observations that people are now being treated against deadly ailments through brain power and positive thinking", he stated. It is already proved on many occasions that people are being cured through positive thinking. For example, the cancer patients are now also being prescribed to engage themselves in positive thinking. The aspect of positive education and training becomes ineffective on those who do not have the capacity to absorb the positive aspects of training and education. He said that often certain things become the compulsion or the need of the time. But as the time passes by, these things form a part of one’s habit in a manner that he even can not realise or even notice it. "People should go through the process of self accountability and corrections and only those could become successful who possess the capacity of self correction from within", he said. He reiterated that those who lack the strength and capacity of corrections would remain static and never reach to the peak of ascendancy but those who have the capacity to change would not only be successful but also free from arrogance. "If you have room for correction then you have room for progress and the success is guaranteed", he further reiterated.

"Those who go through the continued process of accountability and improvement, they do not only reach the peak of success but history also remembers them. While the people who consider themselves total and complete, they may reach to the peak but their name in history would remain blemished", he said.

Mr. Altaf Hussain said that we should practise what we preach and continue to compensate our mistakes. He stated that usually people continue to correct and criticise others and instead of correcting themselves, they consider themselves free from any defects and believe that they do not need correction. He said that those who believed that they are complete; their success comes to an end. A person should never consider himself complete, almighty and powerful", he said. "Those who keep correcting themselves, their brain is more receptive and there is always room for correction in human beings. He further stated that people should not only continue to correct themselves but also be tolerant enough to give others a right to correct them and pinpoint their mistakes and they should not make this a matter of their ego.

"Acceptance of reality is the best course and is not belittling, while accepting one’s own mistakes glorifies him. One should continue to overview his mistakes and shortcomings, analyse where they need corrections and try to compensate them. Giving others credit for their talents with the depth of one’s heart is progression and not retrogression. Therefore, one should have the capacity of correction and those who welcome corrections within themselves become successful persons, said Mr. Hussain.
