Altaf Hussain condemns Nawaz Sharif's policy to bring Mohajirs and Armed Forces face to face

London: November 20, 1998

Mr Altaf Hussain, founder & leader of the MQM (Muttahida Quami Movement), has severely condemned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his malicious conspiracies to bring Mohajirs and the Armed forces face to face. He was expressing his views about the imposition of Article 245 in Sindh province. He said that establishment of summary military courts is a blatant denial of justice and the judicial system of the country. Nawaz Sharif has not only ridiculed the judiciary but also has violated the fundamental rights of the people of Sindh. Mr Hussain said that it was the most obnoxious desire of Nawaz Sharif to polarise the armed forces and Mohajirs. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was misusing the country's most important institution for his vested interests to achieve his political ambitions. He said that the action of Nawaz Sharif was utterly illegal, unconstitutional and undemocratic. Such steps would not only be against the country's interest but would be entirely against the people of Pakistan, particularly people of Sindh. He further said that such steps would enormously aggravate the already prevailing sense of deprivation and victimisation amongst the people of Sindh.

Mr Hussain appealed to the heads of armed forces to understand this conspiracy and save the institution from being manoeuvred for the political aims of Nawaz Sharif.

Mr Hussain appealed to all the patriotic people of Pakistan to join hands against the autocratic policies of Nawaz Sharif.
