Amnesty asks Senators not to support CA-15

ISLAMABAD, Nov 19: The Amnesty International on Thursday appealed to the members of Senate not to support the Shariat bill. "Amnesty International is appealing to the senate of Pakistan not to support the bill aimed at amending the constitution to make Islamic law supreme," said a statement by the London-based human rights group.

"Its (the bill) adoption would further compromise important rights and fundamental freedoms of the people of Pakistan," the Amnesty International said. The group also criticized Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for calling this week for the introduction of Taliban-style "rapid justice".-Reuter
