TELEPHONES AND OTHER COMMUNICATION SERVICES TO THE NINE ZERO AND KKF DISCONNECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF NAWAZ SHARIF

GOVERNMENT ALSO CONSIDERING TO SUSPEND THE MOBILE PHONES AND PAGER SERVICES

Karachi: November 8, 1998

The Government of Nawaz Sharif has disconnected the telephone and fax service to the Nine Zero, residence of Mr. Altaf Hussain, the founder leader of the MQM and Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation, a charitable wing of the MQM.

As a result of the disconnection of the telephone service the workers of MQM are not able to contact the MQM Head Office. Furthermore, general public, the media and other political, social and welfare Organisations of the country are facing great difficulties in communicating with the MQM representatives.

This undemocratic act of disconnection of the communication services to the Head Office of the MQM is part of the State Operation to prevent the representatives of the MQM from apprising the national and international community about the violations of human rights committed by the Government of Nawaz Sharif.

It is to be noted that the communication services to the Nine Zero have been disconnected several times since June 1992, when the State Operation was started against the MQM in June 1992.
